Under
the Table at the Donner Party: A Dining Room Frieze
Here, noted Bay Area
artist Nell Sinton gives us her personal, witty interpretation of
the Donner Party saga. Her story is told from the point of view
of giggling children amongst the shadows under the table. Conceived
as a scroll, the extended panel of images and text is a trail of
crude line, wash, and collage punctuated by a handwritten log of
observation. The scroll is wrapped around a large wooden dowel,
tied with a grosgrain ribbon, and encased in a tube covered in brown
linen. Edition of 100. Printed at the Arion Press. 1976.
