"One can almost taste the esthetic principles and function of life and matter marking seasons of Beauty, Energy, Desire, and Joy," writes Haviaras in these textual artifacts of a sensual philosophy. Filled with images, the poems evoke both the physical and psychical worlds at their intersection in human imagination and longing. They express, at once, both desire and the satisfaction of longing and are well complemented by Webb's prints which are, likewise, suggestive and representational, primal and evocative. The original drawings were converted to and printed from magnesium plates then overpainted with beeswax to add warmth and texture and echo the natural hue of the quarter-vellum spine. Five poems and seven illustrations, set as they are in impressed squares like etchings, function as windows of thought and of vision.

This is an exquisitely conceived and beautifully executed book.
