an Idle Thought
laboriously presented:
by Ross Stockwell
San Diego, California: Ross Stockwell, 2007. Edition of 20.
4.5 x 5.5"; 14 pages. Paper strip pop-ups presented in a small codex book. Paper-covered boards with cloth spine. Written and bound by Ross Stockwell.
Ross Stockwell: "This book employs the same device as The Term [an earlier artists' book by Stockwell] (a ribbon that runs from page to page) but it has a different plot. A strip of paper, running straight and true ... stumbles and bends and goes crooked ... until, at last, it gets back on track. Note: This cliché (straight=good, bent=problematic) is first used cliché fashion to illustrate an Idle Thought, and is then examined, on the last page, as a cliché."
