Total Ocean Recall:
Volume 2

By Maggie Puckett
Chicago, Illinois: Puckett Press, 2010. Edition of 80.

7.75 x 11 x 1.75"; 102 pages. Handmade paper (pigmented cotton, abaca, and hemp). Pens, markers, and colored pencils used in the illustrations. Drum leaf binding. Paper-covered boards with black cloth spine.

Colophon: "This book is the result of a community assisted project. Visitors to Chicago's experimental art fair, NFO XPO, were encouraged to help remember, draw, and list the ocean's inhabitants, including animals, plants, fungi, and micro-organisms. Using pens, markers, and colored pencils, over 100 species were rendered on handmade paper, representing the collective oceanic memory of the art fair's visitors.

"This book is dedicated to the ocean and all its denizens."

Looking at the closed book from the side the viewer will notice the layers of color. The book was bound with darkest papers at the bottom and the lightest at the top to resemble the color layers of the ocean depths. The lightest colored sheets glow subtly in the dark reflecting the filtered light through the water.
