By All Means
By [Passages Bookshop] Abel, David (curator). Barbara Tetenbaum, Inge Bruggeman, Diane Jacobs, Rachel Wiecking, Megan O'Connell and Sarah Horowitz
Portland, Oregon: Passages Bookshop, 2007. Edition of 97.
8 paper pieces in 9.5 x 6.5" lucite box with hinged lid.
Published in conjunction with the exhibition "By All Means: Artist's Books and Objects," a show of books and objects by seven Oregon artists held at the New American Art Union in May of 2007. The work in the exhibition covered a wide range of genres "all informed by the peculiar sensibility of the culture of the book."
From the Introduction to By All Means: "A book is simultaneously object and process, tradition and technology, actor and environment. In the irrepressible efforts of book artists to push past conventional definitions of the book format, a definite if elusive 'bookish' quality nonetheless persists….
"Refiguring the book, we remember what it means to read."
