Waterfalls of the Mississippi

6 x 10.25”; 72 pages. Each image was printed in three to five colors from engraved maple blocks. Text was handprinted Garamond on Zerkall paper. Numbered copies are handbound in cloth and housed in a slipcase featuring a carved engraving of Minnehaha Falls. Contains an elaborate fold-out map locating the falls, connecting trails, and geologic details. Designed, engraved, and printed by Gaylord Schanilec.

A story about the only waterfalls found along the entire 2,300 mile route of the Mississippi River. Schanilec's engravings of Minnehaha, St. Anthony, and River Warren Falls are complemented by Arey's multidimensional text. By fusing geologic, economic, and cultural realities, Arey places ecology in its proper historical context.
