Common Ground
six poems
By Ebby Malmgren
Tucson, Arizona: Isabel Lynne Carnes, 1995. Edition of 100.
7.5 x 9.75"; 34 pages. Screen printed using a Gocco printer on Nideggen paper. Collage. Paper-covered boards with tipped on pottery shard as ornamentation on front board. Exposed spine binding with thread and bead accent. Calligraphy by Lynne Carnes, Suzanne Heany, and Joan Machinchick.
Lynn Carnes: "In 1995, three calligraphers and one poet/clay artist put our talents together to make this edition. Each bound copy has a different cover and piece of pottery. End papers also differ. When the interior of the books was completed, we each took 25 copies to bind as we saw fit." (Available copies are bound by Lynne Carnes.)
Ebby Malmgren is a potter and print maker, as well as a writer. She is a native Iowan but now divides her time Annapolis, Maryland, and Taos, New Mexico. Her writing has appeared in a number of magazines, journals, and anthologies.
Each of the six poems is presented differently with text-appropriate design. The effect is truly a collaboration of poet and calligrapher-designer.
